Dr. Kirstin
Veterinarian
Dr. Kirstin Hewitt was born in the Southern United States and lived in Europe prior to settling in Oregon. Like many veterinarians, Dr. Hewitt set her goal to be a veterinarian at the age of six and found it a bonus to like science, medicine, and caring for others. What was a dream became a passion- a unique opportunity to practice medicine, work with the community, and care for people through animals.
Dr. Hewitt was a veterinary assistant before becoming a veterinarian-working with a variety of species (alpacas being her favorite) in various settings (including shelter medicine!) and even had the opportunity to work at a goat dairy for a few years.
She graduated with a degree in Animal Sciences from Oregon State University in 2014 and completed her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine (DVM) at Carlson College of Veterinary Medicine in 2018. After graduating, she spent some time in general practice and three years in emergency medicine before finding her home at Pawsitive. Her professional interests include ultrasonography, chronic gastrointestinal disease, dermatology, pain management, and behavior modification. Dr. Hewitt has a soft spot for dogs and cats needing more patience/time.
Dr. Hewitt has received the following certifications: Cat-Friendly Veterinarian Certification- American Association of Feline Practitioners (AAFP), Oncura Ultrasound Certification and AFAST, TFAST, and Vet BLUE Global Fast Certification.
Oddly enough, Dr. Hewitt is allergic to cats, so she spends her free time with Rocky (an adopted pitbull), Apollo (a silly Frenchiebo), her partner, and about 100 indoor plants.
Dr. Jenny
Veterinarian
Dr. Jenny Davies is a veterinarian who provides considered and compassionate care by partnering with their guardians to keep our pets happy and healthy. Dr. Jenny knows that including mental health and behavior as a part of a holistic approach is essential and plays a significant role in our pets’ wellness.
Before Dr. Jenny became a veterinarian, she researched and completed a master’s degree in wildlife behavior and ecology. Her work centered on the conservation biology of endangered species. She worked on projects that took her to central and South American jaguars in Belize and Guatemala and vicuñas in the Andes.
After chasing around animals in the rainforest and mountain tops in Peru, she left academia and pursued her life-long dream of becoming a veterinarian. She brings her expertise in animal behavior and wildlife handling techniques into veterinary medicine. She has worked as a veterinarian with horses, camelids, and wildlife and now as a small animal veterinarian. Her interests include behavior, GI cases, geriatric and feline medicine, dermatology, and pain management.
Currently, here at Pawsitive, Dr. Jenny is building a new service for behavior consults, nose work lessons, and an exciting new kitten and puppy package. Dr. Jenny is a member of the International Association of Behavior Consults (IAABC) and is working towards certification. This approach brings techniques used with zoo animals to small animal general practice, allowing us to make our pet visits as low-stress as possible.
She will also be starting telemedicine appointments to extend access to care for our current clients and their pets. Telemedicine is a new way to bring care to our pets, especially those who are especially nervous coming into the clinic for general consults, re-evaluations, and urgent care/triage.
When Dr. Jenny is not tending to our pets, she can be found scent training with her dog Púca or exploring the Oregon coast. She is also often found with her nose in a book about ancient mythology.
Andria D. Saxon
Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, Certified Veterinary Practice Manager, Certified Veterinary Technician
Andria Saxon began her career in veterinary medicine with Dr.Bob McKnight of Florence, Oregon, as a kennel assistant on her 16th birthday. She attended Lane Community College and Oregon State University, where she studied pre-veterinary medicine. Falling in love, getting married, and starting a family put that career path on hold.
While raising her family, she worked for International Paper Company in the timber accounting department and explored a career in accounting. While enjoyable, it just wasn’t veterinary medicine. The family moved to Ketchikan, Alaska, to follow her husband’s career, and she began working for Ketchikan Veterinary Clinic in reception and as a veterinary assistant. When her husband was injured on the job, he changed careers, and the family moved to Eugene.
Dr. Nancy Johnson hired Andria as a veterinary assistant in 2002. Andria was promoted to practice manager and shortly after passed the national board examination to become a Certified Veterinary Technician. As the practice manager, she discovered the right combination of veterinary medicine and business management, creating the perfect career combination.
In 2007, Andria passed an international board examination to become a Certified Veterinary Practice Manager. Since her career path had become clear, she returned to higher education and completed her Bachelor of Science in business administration through the University of Phoenix. It was a long and wondrous path, and she wouldn’t change it a single bit.
Andria is married to Brad, and they own a farm in Creswell. Cats, horses, bees, and chickens call Tangled Orchard Farm home.
Matt Bolton
Bachelor of Science in Marketing
Matt Bolton started work in animal health in 2003 for Schering-Plough, selling pharmaceuticals and advising veterinarians from Eugene to Napa, California. After leaving Schering-Plough, he joined Pfizer Animal Health, now called Zoetis, where he completed his veterinary sales career.
His calling to veterinary medicine made him feel like a lottery winner. Working with people committed to bettering the lives of pets and pet parents was marvelous. After 15 years in the industry, he was ready to make a change and leave the comforts of corporate employment to enjoy self-employment.
Joining Andria Saxon to start Pawsitive Wellness Veterinary Care allows him to continue giving the highest possible care to furry family members in the Eugene area.
Matt resides in Medford, Oregon, with his wife and three rescue dogs, Kahlua, Elbe, and Buster. Matt’s wife, Lorna, is a board member with Friends of the Animal Shelter and volunteers over 1000 hours a year to enhance the lives of shelter pets.
